Free medical camp tomorrow for under-privileged women

The ladies wing of the Indian Association will be holding a free medical camp for women tomorrow from 4.00 to 8.00pm in the auditorium of the Indian Consulate.

This charity medical camp is being conducted by Dr Sarita Kapoor and aided by pathologist Dr C.K. Badani during the screening.

Dr Kapoor is a well-known gynaecologist and obstetrician at the Al Diyafa Clinic in Dubai. She shall be holding a free Pap smear test for cervical cancer screening for under-privileged women.

This charity drive is directed towards those members of the society who are not aware of these problems and cannot afford a test of this nature.

"A large section of the low-income women working in beauty parlours, across supermarket counters, as housemaids and in other sections of our society shall definitely benefit if they get this test done and we would like them to come forward and participate in the camp. It is the aim of the Indian Association to serve the Indian community living in Dubai," says Sangeeta Nair, committee member of the ladies wing, Indian Association.

"The Pap smear test is done because it can show the presence of infection, inflammation, abnormal cells or cancer. It is an important part of a woman's routine health care we can detect abnormalities at an earlier stage. These abnormalities can be treated before cancer develops.

"Most invasive cancers of the cervix can be prevented if women have Pap tests and pelvic exams regularly. Also, as with many types of cancer, cancer of the cervix is more likely to be treated successfully if it is detected early," says Dr Kapoor.

In her 15 years of practice in the Gulf, Dr Kapoor has been involved with many charities and camps.
