Vienna: The UAE has confirmed its keenness to apply the highest standards of nuclear safety and security through the implementation of its programme of peaceful nuclear energy in full transparency and commitment to the highest standards in addition to its commitment to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"We have committed ourselves to using peaceful nuclear energy in abidance with the highest standards of safety and security, and has adopted a detailed policy in 2008 for the development of a peaceful nuclear energy programme.

" The national policy endorses principles of complete transparency, a commitment to the highest standards of non-proliferation and full cooperation with the IAEA as fundamental principles by which all nuclear activities and programmes should be governed," Ambassador Hamad Al Ka'abi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the IAEA said in a statement to International Atomic Energy Agency 55th General Conference in Vienna.

The UAE continues to work closely with the IAEA and cooperate with international partners to benefit from peaceful nuclear energy in a sustainable manner highlighting the developments of the UAE's nuclear program during the past year, he added.
