New York: The UAE last night pledged $2.19 million in support of a number the United Nations activities, programmes and funds for the year 2011.

UAE's Permanent Representative to UN Ambassador Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Jarman has sent an official message to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, including the details of the amounts that UAE have decided to donate during 2011 for UN programmes and various activities in the humanitarian, developmental and social fields.

In this respect, UAE has donated $1,000,000 to United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), $324,000 to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), $200,000 to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), 100,000 to United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), $100,000 to International Committee of the Red Cross, $100,000 to Support Fund for navigation in the Malacca Strait in addition to 50,000 to United Nations Development Fund for Women.

Moreover, UAE has donated $50,000 to Central Emergency Response Fund, 50,000 to Trust Fund for United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, $40,000 to United Nations Environment Programme, $40,000 to United Nations Fund for South-South Cooperation besides $30,000 to United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Fund, $30,000 to United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund on Contemporary Forms of Slavery, $20,000 to Trust Fund for Strengthening the Office of the Emergency Relief Coordinator.

It also included $10,000 to United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), $10,000 to United Nations Population Fund, $10,000 to Fund of the United Nations International Drug Control Programme, $10,000 to United Nations Voluntary Fund on Disability, $10,000 to United Nations Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture and $10,000 to Trust Fund for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
