Prominent Emirati journalist Ibrahim Al Abed died on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Presidential Affairs mourned the death of the veteran who served the media industry for over 42 years.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, paid tribute to Al Abed on Twitter, calling him one of the pioneers of the UAE media.

Al Abed joined the Ministry of Information in 1975 and contributed to establishing the UAE News Agency (WAM) in 1977. He held several posts throughout his long career. He held the position of the adviser to the Chairman of the UAE’s National Media Council (NMC) and was its director general.
