Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the cooperation of 2 nations in enabling the exchange
Abu Dhabi: Russia and Ukraine conducted a prisoner swap on Monday, with each side releasing 150 prisoners of war.
The exchange, facilitated by the UAE, brings the total number of detainees exchanged through UAE-brokered efforts to 2,484 since the conflict began.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the cooperation of both nations in enabling the exchange, highlighting the country’s role as a trusted mediator.
The Ministry emphasized that the UAE is commited to supporting diplomatic dialogue and peaceful resolutions to the conflict.
With this milestone, the UAE has now facilitated 10 prisoner exchanges between the two nations in 2024 alone. This success reflects the deep trust both sides place in the UAE’s mediation efforts, which aim not only to resolve conflicts but also to mitigate their humanitarian toll.
The UAE stressed that it will make every effort to alleviate the humanitarian impact of the war, focusing on the welfare of prisoners and refugees.
The UAE’s efforts in mediation extend beyond the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In December 2022, it successfully brokered a high-profile exchange of two prisoners between the US and Russia, further cementing its reputation as a key player in international diplomacy.
