Dubai: The air quality in all seven emirates can now be tested and measured using a standardised system following the establishment of the UAE Air Quality Network.

The Ministry of Environment and Water on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi, Dubai Municipality, Fujairah Municipality, the Municipality and Planning Department in Ajman and Sharjah Municipality to link all the 41 Air Quality Network stations across the country.

“The main objective is to take an overall view of the air quality in the UAE as before it was always segmented,” Fahd Mohammad Saeed Hareb, Director of Air Quality Department at the ministry, told Gulf News.

“Now, as a ministry, we’ve unified the process and everybody is now measuring it the same way,” Hareb said, adding the department aims to launch the Air Quality Index of the country very soon.
