Manama: King Juan Carlos of Spain will make official visits to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in April and May.

In a press statement, the Spanish Monarchy said that the king and his accompanying delegation’s tour will start with a two-day visit to the UAE, on Sunday and Monday. Then, they will make another two-day visit to Kuwait starting Tuesday.

King Juan Carlos will visit Oman and Bahrain by the end of April and will go to Saudi Arabia and Qatar in May, the statement said on Saturday, Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported.

The goal of the tour is to give impetus to bilateral relations and cooperation in various areas.

During the tour, the Spanish King will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo, Minister of Defense Pedro Morenes, Minister of Transport and Development Ana Pastor and Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism Jose Manuel Soria.

Carlos’s visit to Kuwait coincides with the two countries’ celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their bilateral diplomatic ties, the official news agency said.

The visit to Kuwait by King Juan Carlos will be the seventh to the northern Arabian Gulf state since he became king of Spain in 1975. His previous six visits were in 1980, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
