Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, attended the Women’s Race, the final stage of the Al Salam Cycling Championship at Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve. The event marked the grand finale of the championship’s ninth edition.

Organised by the Private Office of Sheikh Mohammed, the championship is the world’s largest community cycling event in terms of diversity and prize value. Led by Omar bin Jumaa Al Falasi, Director-General of the Private Office, the Women’s Race featured two competitive categories.

Intense competition

Both races began at Al Marmoom Conservation Reserve, with a 107-km race for Emirati female cyclists and a 136-km elite race for resident and GCC competitors. Sponsored by Al Tayer Motors, the event showcased top performances against the stunning backdrop of the UAE’s largest natural reserve.

Empowering women in sports

Al Falasi thanked Sheikh Mohammed for his support and highlighted the championship’s role in promoting sports, health, and inclusivity. He emphasized the Women’s Race’s contribution to empowering female athletes and enhancing Dubai’s global sporting reputation.

Race Winners

  • Emirati Women’s Race: Sheikha Madiya Bint Hasher Al Maktoum (MyWhoosh) took first place, with teammates Ayesha Foolad and Mouza Al Ghafil securing second and third.

  • Elite Race: Nora Jencusova (Dubai Police Cycling – Positive Spirit) won, followed by Cristina Tonetti (Dubai Police – Essad) and Olha Shkel (Dubai Police Cycling).

  • Team Rankings: MyWhoosh, Dubai Police Cycling, and Airwick Racing led the Emirati race, while Dubai Police – Positive Spirit, Dubai Police – Esaad, and Dubai Police dominated the elite category.

  • 40+ Age Category: Sheikha Madiya (Emirati) and Hellen Bachofen von Echt (Elite) emerged winners.

Photography competition

A photography competition, launched in collaboration with The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Awards, invites entries capturing the Women’s Race. Submissions remain open until 26 February, with prizes of Dh12,000, Dh8,000, and Dh5,000.

Celebrated championship

The ninth edition kicked off in December with the Sword of Honour race, followed by the Ruler’s Court Elite Men’s Race and the Desert Race. Organised with key partners, including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, RTA, and Dubai Sports Council, the championship reinforces Dubai’s position as a global sports hub.
