Renewable energy ties top Lee visit agenda

Abu Dhabi:  A renewable energy partnership between the UAE and South Korea is on top of the agenda as President Lee Myung-bak, who arrived yesterday in Abu Dhabi, began a two-day visit to the UAE.

President Lee, who is heading a high-level delegation, was received at the airport by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Foreign Trade, Abdullah Mohammad Abdul Wahid Al Maeena, UAE Ambassador to Seoul, Chung Yong-chil, Korean Ambassador to the UAE, and a number of senior officials.

President Lee inspected a Guard of Honour.

The UAE and South Korea are seeking to bolster economic ties as well as cooperation in green economy concepts, peaceful nuclear energy, reducing carbon emissions and increasing trade exchange.

According to a report released by the South Korean embassy in Abu Dhabi, South Korean imports to the UAE grew by 55.2 per cent in 2008.

The top import products were passenger cars, wireless phones and electric cable.
