Abu Dhabi: In line with the national happiness and positivity initiative, nine establishments were awarded on Tuesday evening for meeting the objectives of the Labour Happiness Programme set by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
The ceremony, which was held at the workers’ accommodation on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat, was attended Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, and Uhoud Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness.
During the ceremony, MOHRE and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du) also launched the ‘The Happiness SIM’ initiative, which provides workers with mobile phone SIM cards free of charge.
“Honouring the winners of the Labour Happiness Programme, which coincides with the ongoing celebrations of the International Labourer’s Day, as workers here in the UAE are respected, appreciated and treated equally under the wise leadership’s mandates,” Ghobash said.
“There is no doubt that labourers’ happiness feeds superior productivity, and following the suggested award criteria, private sector companies raced to achieve the ministry’s plus the nation’s recognition for, what is believed, one of the most significant initiatives today, happiness,” he said.
Uhoud Al Roumi said, “Such initiatives remarkably uplift private sector work environments to reach a happy and positive workplace and that, as believed, motivates employees to increase their productivity, thus positively affecting the national economy.”
The ‘Happiest Work Environment’ award went to Al Naboodah Contracting Co LLC and Sharjah Cooperative Society, the ‘Best Activities and Initiatives’ award went to Al Fahim Foundation, while Majid Al Futtaim Retail - UAE won the ‘Happiest Work Environment for Human Resources’ award.
The ‘Best Labour Accommodation’ award was bagged by the developers of Saadiyat Workers’ Village and M.K.M Commercial Services Holding Group; the ‘Happiest Bus’ award went to Waid Admar Contracting Company, National Trading and Development Corporation and Arab Construction Company.
