Abu Dhabi: A training programme launched in the capital today (February 2) will work to enhance the skills and qualifications of agents and other professionals in the real estate industry.

The programme will be conducted by municipal sector regulator, the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), in collaboration with education institute, the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Training (ACTVET).

It has been introduced in accordance with Abu Dhabi Property Law No 3 of 2015, which came into effect last month. The regulation stipulates that all real estate sector executives must undergo and obtain permits for their designated roles.

“The [mandatory] training will ensure that personnel are able to fulfil their responsibilities in line with the new real estate law. It will also enhance their qualifications while ensuring market stability and sustainability,” said Khalifa Al Mazroui, undersecretary at the DMA. He was commenting at a ceremony held to mark the training cooperation agreement between the DMA and ACTVET.

Officials said at the event that a website will be launched shortly to enable real estate professionals to register for the training. The intensive programme, which will be delivered to participants within two to seven days, is also expected to attract more Emiratis to the real estate sector, they added.

Following this, the DMA will soon start issuing licences for qualified real estate personnel who have availed of the training sessions.

Yousuf Al Kuwaiti, director of regulations, land and real estate registration at the DMA, clarified that the new law stipulates a grace period of 90 days for all personnel to comply with its requirements and transition from the previous procedures to the new ones.

As reported by Gulf News in December 2015, the real estate law calls for a fine of Dh50,000 to Dh200,000 for personnel who operate without the DMA licence after the grace period expires.

Another of its main requirements is the preparation of a real estate register by the DMA. This is then expected to help the authority estimate the number and skills of industry professionals operating in Abu Dhabi.
