Dubai: UK expatriates in the UAE are required to now apply online to have their passports renewed, it was announced on Sunday.

The new rules, which were implemented on January 29, require applicants to complete the application form online that will be able to chart the progress of the application from start to finish.

An official from the British Embassy said, “UK citizens used to fill the form manually and then post it to the passport office in Liverpool. With the new online system, expatriates will now have the facility to track their application and review its process.”

According to a statement by the British Embassy in Dubai, the new system will provide the applicant with a streamlined, automated passport application process. Payment must also be made online and supporting documents should then continue to be sent to the passport office by courier. However, the processing time will remain the same.

For further information on how to apply, UK residents can contact the Passport Office at gov.uk/overseas-passports, or the Contact Passport Advice Line on +44 300 222 0000, at overseasNewportCCC@hmpo.gsi.gov.uk.
