Abu Dhabi (WAM): Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and a visiting delegation from Canada’s University of Calgary, on Wednesday, had talks on cooperation on higher education, scientific research and exploration of academic opportunities.

In remarks at the meeting which was attended by Arif Lalani, the Canadian ambassador, the minister underscored the need for any country to give males and females access to universities and, at the same time, to maintain quality higher education in order to produce output that lives up to the national responsibility of nation-building.

The Canadian ambassador expressed hopes that higher education and scientific research cooperation between the university and the UAE’s institutions will be promoted in the future.

Founded in 1966, the University of Calgary is composed of 14 faculties with 34,000 undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled. Nearly 6,000 students, of whom 25 per cent are Canadians, graduate every year, Dr. Edward McCauley, Vice-President of the University of Calgary, said.
