Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) appealed to motorists to fully comply with traffic rules, regulations and the legal speed limits during the Eid Al Fitr holidays to avoid traffic accidents and tragic injuries and losses that may result from them.

The ministry urged the public to not use mobile phones to answer Eid compliments or surf the internet while driving. It further cautioned drivers against ignoring safety instructions, requirements and traffic rules. It also warned motorists against taking photos while driving, as this is a violation and endangers the lives of drivers and other road users.

Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Za’abi, director-general of the Traffic Coordination Directorate General at the ministry, confirmed that the MoI has launched the “Your Safety Completes Eid Happiness” initiative, which has been implemented by the Security Media Department. He also stressed the need to abide by the instructions given by traffic police officers and drive carefully, especially near malls and markets.

He also urged motorists to leave sufficient safe distance between vehicles; avoid obstructing traffic by parking randomly or inappropriately in public parking spaces; avoid using parking spaces dedicated for people with disabilities or Civil Defence and ambulance vehicles so that their work is not impeded during emergencies.

“All traffic and patrols departments across the UAE have intensified patrolling on external and internal roads to ensure a smooth traffic flow, prevent congestion and handle potential emergencies that could spoil the joy of these blessed days,” Brigadier Al Za’abi added.
