Dubai: The Smart Gate mobile registration station moved to Deira City Centre yesterday morning, offering residents and citizens the convenience of signing up for the Smart Gate service free of charge at this central location.

With a Smart Gate, residents can bypass long lines at passport control and clear immigration within seconds at Dubai Airports.

“It takes no more than 20 seconds to verify a user’s information at the Smart Gate,” Major Khalid Yousuf Al Yousuf, Head of the Smart Gate administration at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs, said. “The registration centre used to be in Mirdif City Centre, where it was a huge success. It will now be operational at Deira City Centre from 10am to 10pm until February 18. “

There are no previous requirements necessary for the registration. Residents can register at Deira City Centre booth by submitting electronically their passport information, fingerprints and eye scan.

“Only a passport and the passport holder are required to register for the service,” Al Yousuf said, “Once they are registered, users can clear the immigration process using any of four identification methods. We already have had 600,000 citizens and residents sign up. “

The Smart Gate, designed by Emaratech, is designed to ensure quick passenger clearance at the Dubai Airports via smart card and biometric verification.

Once registered, travellers will avoid long queues and crowds at passport control. Travellers need only spend eight to 12 seconds to clear the immigration process and can use either a passport, UAE Emirates ID, E- Gate card or even a QR bar code via the GDRFA DUBAI smartphone app.

“The GDRFA, along with its strategic partner Emaratech, has given citizens and residents the chance to register for the Smart Gate function at the Dubai Airports free of charge. We are aiming to decrease traffic at the passport control queues and to make travelling through the Dubai Airports an efficient and hassle-free process.”
