Abu Dhabi: The Federal National Council (FNC) has paid tribute to the leaders of the GCC nations on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

In the statement, FNC praised the leaders who launched the pan-Gulf entity in Abu Dhabi on May 25, 1981 based on their far-sighted vision, sincere determination and faith in the vital role it plays in the service of their countries’ future, realising their peoples’ long-standing dreams.

In particular, FNC paid tribute to the UAE founding father, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who was the first to urge the establishment of the GCC following his success in unifying his country’s emirates into a solid federation.

GCC has served all its members as well as other Arab and Muslim countries, said the FNC in the statement.

“GCC has been able to overcome several hurdles, made remarkable achievements, established strong relations with the rest of the world and made an effective and positive contribution to the security and stability of the region.”

The statement added that the UAE has always been at the forefront of supporters of the march of GCC, calling for the continuous development of the entity and the upgrading of its action mechanisms in order to increase its effectiveness and make its decisions and recommendations live up to the aspirations of its peoples for integration between its member states in all spheres.

The FNC statement greeted President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the other leaders of the GCC and expressed its best wishes for further progress, prosperity and integration for the peoples of the region within the framework of a unified vision and a common destiny.
