Festivities to mark Saqr's Accession Day

Ras Al Khaimah: Ras Al Khaimah will on Thursday mark the 60th Accession Day of His Highness Shaikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, in a glittering ceremony on Al Qawasim Corniche.

The higher organising committee for the celebrations has made preparations to make the functions a success. The celebrations will begin at noon and end after midnight.

Tareq Mohammad Bin Saif, head of the committee, said that several sub-committees have been working for the past four months on the ceremony under the supervision of Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ras Al Khaimah Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler, and General Shaikh Taleb Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, who have provided all the necessary capabilities to make the event a success.

Addressing a press conference at the police headquarters, Tareq Bin Saif said the venue of Al Qawasim Corniche is expected to attract crowds from all over the UAE and the region to pay tribute to Shaikh Saqr and enjoy the festivities.

He said the love of Emiratis and residents will be demonstrated, and the 60-year rule of Shaikh Saqr will be appreciated.

Maryam Al Shehi, head of the activities' sub-committee, said that Shaikha Mahra Bint Ahmad, wife of Shaikh Saqr, is sponsoring the publication of an encyclopaedia on the history, legacy and milestones in the life of Shaikh Saqr.

A photography exhibition which includes rare pictures of Shaikh Saqr will also be opened to the public.

Processions are scheduled to be taken out on the day. Other activities include an opera on Shaikh Saqr.

Prominent Emirati singers including Hussain Al Jesmi, Aida Al Manhali, and Haza'a, will participate in a musical performance.
