Dubai: Hundreds of Emiratis and expatriates as well as people abroad took to social media platforms to share their condolences following the news of the death of Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Saturday.

Shaikh Rashid, who passed away as a result of a heart attack at the age of 34, was the eldest son of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Following the announcement of his passing, the hashtag “Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad in god’s protection” (in Arabic) became the trending topic in the UAE, with over 135,000 tweets (as of press deadline) by people who shared their prayers and condolences on the social media platform.

Expats and nationals condoled with the ruling family of Dubai and the UAE as a whole for the loss of Shaikh Rashid on social media platforms.

User Yassine Lamzadrhi tweeted: “The news made me feel so sad...I’ve always found this person kind and lovely, besides he died so young.”

User @gurmehak99 tweeted: “Heartfelt condolences and solace to HH Shaikh Mohammad on the loss of his eldest son. Rip (Rest in Peace).”

Sharing his sadness after hearing the news, user Suhail Al Rawi tweeted: “My condolences to Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid and the people of the Emirates on the passing of Shaikh Rashid.”

User Hamza Javed prayed for Shaikh Rashid’s family, tweeting: “May Allah give patience to the family of Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad Al Maktoum!”

User Meerah also tweeted: “RIP Shaikh Rashid Bin Mohammad, my sincere condolences to the ruling family,”

Dubai Media Office warned people on Twitter from following any fake account under Shaikh Rashid’s name tweeting: “Shaikh Rashid may his soul rest in peace did not have any accounts on social media.”

The condolence messages and posts were shared on other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
