Dubai: The UAE leadership was always confident of successfully overcoming the global economic crisis, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said on Wednesday.

Speaking to Arab journalists at the conclusion of the second Government Summit in Dubai, Shaikh Mohammad said: “I remember calling the days of the crisis as days of major challenge. Reporters used to ask me, ‘What’s next?’ I would reply that they only saw things based on current events and analyses, but I was judging the situation based on my past experience and my vision for the future.

“The global economic crisis did not affect me in the least, I was very confident that the crisis would pass,” he said.

“Everyone wondered why the crisis did not faze me in the least… I was adamant on facing the challenge with determination, our own capabilities and my faith in Allah,” said Shaikh Mohammad.

Shaikh Mohammad also highlighted the progress of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which he said was heading in the right direction.
