Abu Dhabi: The UAE's chief government lawyer has issued an order on Wednesday blocking the websites and online platforms of certain electronic games, including My Friend Cayla, Blue Whale, Cloud Pets, Roblox and Mariam.

The ban came after information that these games, which target mostly youngsters, could endanged the lives of these children.

The games also ask the users to reveal their details about their lives and that of their families.

Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE’s Attorney General, said that these sites prompt children and youngsters to act bizarrely and resort to weird behaviour that endanger their lives.

He added these dangerous games end up mentally controlling the youngsters.

Addiction to these games has become a social phenomenon that poses a threat to the public interest and safety, the official said.

The attorney general instructed the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) to take the necessary measures to block these sites in cooperation with Etisalat and Internet service providers to ensure that these sites are blocked.

He commissioned UAE federal investigators to continue scrutinising and verifying these sites and electronic games and inform him immediately about the results.
