The Committee of Experts, Conciliators, and Mediators at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department approved the registration of 40 private mediators in the registry for civil and commercial dispute resolution.

These mediators successfully completed the accredited training program at the Abu Dhabi Judicial Academy, this initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance amicable dispute resolution methods, support qualified national professionals, and provide effective alternatives to court litigation.

The committee meeting was chaired by His Excellency Counselor Yousef Saeed Al-Abri, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, the committee also approved the registration of five experts in engineering, accounting, information technology, and gold jewelry, and reviewed three re-registration requests for experts.

To be registered as a private mediator, candidates must be UAE nationals, though exceptions are made for non-citizens with at least four years of experience in reconciliation or dispute resolution within the UAE. Candidates must have full legal capacity, good conduct, and no final convictions for crimes involving dishonesty or breach of trust, even if pardoned.

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in law, Sharia and law, or an equivalent recognized qualification. Integrity, impartiality, and honesty are essential, alongside passing accredited training courses and interviews.

The mediation system also allows companies and sole proprietorships licensed in Abu Dhabi to practice mediation, provided they have suitable facilities and demonstrate technical capability to manage disputes. Mediation sessions can be held at law firms, legal consultancy companies, or licensed expert centers meeting regulatory requirements. Licensed lawyers may add mediation to their commercial licenses upon fulfilling necessary conditions.

Applicants can obtain and submit registration forms electronically via the Judicial Department’s website, along with required documents, to the Mediation and Conciliation Center for review.
