Kathmandu: The new UAE Embassy building was officially opened in Nepal on Wednesday by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Shaikh Abdullah raised the UAE flag outside the building and unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the opening of the new building. The minister then toured the embassy and was briefed on its different departments.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kamal Thapa, Nepalese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Saeed Hamdan Al Naqbi, UAE Ambassador to Nepal; the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt in Nepal, and a number of local officials.
Earlier, Shaikh Abdullah met Bidhya Devi Bhandari, President of Nepal. During the meeting, both parties reviewed a number of issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations in various fields, including the need to strengthen economic relations between the two countries.
Shaikh Abdullah also met Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, Nepal’s Prime Minister. They discussed cooperation and friendship between the UAE and Nepal and ways to bolster them. Shaikh Abdullah said that it is important to exchange such visits between officials of the two countries within the framework of boosting bilateral cooperation and access to development programmes and levels of progress and development in the two countries.
He expressed the UAE’s keenness to extend bridges of cooperation and strengthen aspects of rapprochement with Nepal and support everything that would encourage investment and diversify areas of cooperation to serve the common interests of both sides.
Oli praised the UAE’s investment environment, which has contributed to attracting global businesses and investment projects, and made it a prestigious commercial and financial centre as well as a platform for global companies to jump-start their operations from the UAE to other countries in the region. He wished the country more successes in various fields.
Later, Shaikh Abdullah and Kamal Thapa exchanged views on a number of issues of common interest as well as current regional and international developments.
Shaikh Abdullah praised UAE-Nepal relations, crediting the support and keenness of both countries’ leaderships for promoting and developing mutual relations in various fields.
