Nationals and expatriates in the capital yesterday celebrated the 36th anniversary of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's accession as the Ruler of Abu Dhabi emirate, with great joy and enthusiasm.

A colourful parade started at the Abu Dhabi Police General Directorate and terminated at the Police Officers' Club on Eastern Ring Road.

It eventually converged into a festival attended by Major General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Interior Ministry Undersecretary.

At the Club, an exhibition of Sheikh Zayed's photographs and ancient arms and ammunition were on display. An heritage village was also open to the public here.

On the sidelines of the celebrations, an opera on Sheikh Zayed was also organised, which was attended by Sheikh Saif, other senior Interior Ministry and Abu Dhabi Police officials. A number of foreign diplomats also attended the opera.
