Fujairah government departments have drawn up arrangements to ensure trouble-free Eid Al Fitr celebrations.

The municipality, traffic police, civil defence and Fujairah hospital will be put on full alert. Traffic Police will deploy more patrols on the emirate's outer and arterial roads, especially those leading to places of tourist interest, because there will be an increase in visitors.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mohammed Ahmed bin Ghanem, Director General of the Fujairah Police Department, said safety measures will be stepped up during the Eid holidays.

"More patrols will be deployed in Dibba Al Fujairah and its adjacent areas to curb traffic jam and joyriders," said Lt Col bin Ghanem. "Joyriders race in Dibba during Eid holidays, but we won't let them scare people."

He urged motorists to drive safely and observe traffic rules. He advised people coming to visit Fujairah from other emirates to drive safely, especially in the mountainous areas and the risky road between Masafi and Dibba. They are also advised to ask traffic policemen for help.

"Visitors from Dubai and Abu Dhabi are urged to drive to Dibba through Fujairah city when they reach Masafi, and not use the Masafi-Dibba road, which is narrow, not lit and dangerous."

Government buildings and other federal premises, banks, major streets and roundabouts are being decorated for Eid Al Fitr and UAE National Day celebrations.

The municipality has arranged a special programme. "A music festival is being arranged by the municipality at Madhab Park, at the square in front of Madhab Palace and at Fujairah Corniche. The programme will include daily cultural and folkloric shows by dancers and singers from Arab countries," said a source from the municipality.

Squads of workers from the municipality have begun maintaining the major streets and roads leading to the Eid Mussallah and areas around residential complexes. They are also cleaning roundabouts as well as tourist and archaeological sites.

A team of veterinarians from the municipality was sent to the livestock market under the supervision of the Public Health and Environment Department to check sheep and cattle. Vets are also available to examine sheep at the abattoir. Health inspectors are visiting markets to ensure that products meet hygienic standards.

A source from the Fujairah Civil Defence Department said as people gather in large numbers at certain places during Eid holidays, they will send a special team to check fire fighting equipment and other safety measures there. Children must not be allowed to play with fireworks, he said.

Obeid Rashid Al Khadeem, Director of Fujairah Hospital, said the casualty and emergency sections have been put on full alert.
