Dubai: Passengers on Dubai Metro can use free Wi-Fi this Ramadan to post content on social media as part of an iftar charity drive.
The complimentary wireless connection is courtesy of UAE telecom du, which will donate Dh10 towards its annual iftar charity for every post using the hashtag #30DaysofSharing.
Social media users on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are invited to share the things that make Ramadan special to them.
The donations will support the firm’s Mawaed Al Rahman iftar tables initiative that distributes iftar meals to those less fortunate.
Iftar is the sunset meal taken to end the day’s fast.
The Wi-Fi service will be available in all Dubai Metro carriages, on every train and on both the Green and Red Lines.
To connect, passengers need to select the ‘du WiFi’ from their Wi-Fi-enabled device. Opening their device’s browser will direct them to the du Wi-Fi landing page, from which they enjoy complimentary browsing throughout their journey.
Fahd Al Hassawi, Chief Commercial Officer, du, said: “The ability to connect anywhere, at any time, empowers people with the ability to be more productive, and to stay in touch with the things that matter most to them – something that we consider to be important at a time such as the holy month of Ramadan.”
Du initiated the Wi-Fi network on Dubai Metro’s Red Line in 200 and the Green Line in 2012.
