Dubai: Up to 90,000 workers will receive Iftar meals during the month of Ramadan, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing announced on Sunday.
Speaking at a press conference, Hamad bin Magran, General Administrator of the 11th Ramadan Forum, said that over 2,800 people from different nationalities will receive free Iftar meals daily at the labour camp in Al Muhaisana 2, as part of the government’s efforts to enhance unity and Islamic fraternity among Muslims.
“As was the case with the past 10 sessions, the forum this year is expected to make an astounding success, particularly for those who are eager to know about the true teachings of Islam from renowned scholars worldwide,” he noted.
The lecture programme, after having seen success in its previous sessions, will hold lectures in non-Arabic languages on July 31, and August 1, 2, and 3 and the Al Tawar Tent. Two other lectures will also be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre on July 26 and 27.
“A number of lectures and competitions will be held among workers while thousands of brochures, pamphlets, CDs and cassettes on the merciful teachings of Islam,” said Bin Magran.
The annual event, held under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation, will be held from July 24 to August 4 under the theme, “Breezes of Mercy.”
During the 11th Ramadan Forum, a 12-day cultural programme will be available to residents who are eager to learn from scholars and preachers from Arab and Islamic countries.
Part of the Ramadan’s forum further includes activities such as the Goodness Caravan, which roams around the emirate of Dubai and distributes thousands of books, pamphlets, and cassettes on Islam.
“The same caravan will also distribute thousands of briefcases comprised of religious issues, which will visit schools, universities, hospitals and government departments, as well as private institutions and civil bodies in Dubai,” explained Bin Magran.
The ‘Nation Preacher’ Caravan will further be available across the emirate to preach to students on relevant issues derived from the daily life and social backgrounds.
“The move is aimed to create a new generation of students and train them to effectively participate in discussing important issues,” he said, adding that this year’s programmes will feature young students singing Islamic songs and reciting poetry.
