Dubai: A fire broke out in a residential apartment in Bur Dubai’s Bank Street on Monday, forcing residents to evacuate the building.

The blaze is suspected to have broken out on the fourth floor of the building, eyewitnesses told Gulf News.

Some residents are being treated for smoke inhalation while firefighters are still fighting to completely douse the fire. They said most of the occupants are Filipino expatriates.

“Some five to six of them were taken to the ambulances and were treated for smoke inhalation. Some others have sustained minor injuries. They are all in panic,” said an Indian man.

Several people have crowded near the building located behind ADCB bank on Khalid Bin Waleed Road. Vehicles of Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Police and ambulances are on the site.

The fire, which gutted the apartment, was reported at 3:07pm and was put out by 3:34pm, according to the Dubai Civil Defence.
