Ajman: A fire broke out at a fibreglass factory in Ajman’s new Industrial area on Saturday morning, Colonel Nasser Rashid Al Ziri, director of the media and public relations department of Ajman Civil Defence, told Gulf News.

There were no casualties reported.

The Civil Defence operations room received a call at 11.15am about the fire.

The factory was partially gutted in the blaze.

Firefighters managed to control the fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the factory. A rescue team evacuated nearby buildings to ensure workers’ safety, Col Al Ziri said.

Police blocked all roads leading to the factory, he added, which allowed firefighters and ambulance personnel to reach the area quicker, leading to the fire being brought under control sooner, he added.

Col Al Ziri said: “Our brave firefighters fought the flames and managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent factories. The fire started from a corner where some materials were stored and spread to the rest of the factory. The site will be handed over to forensic experts to determine the cause.”

He appealed to the owners of industrial facilities to properly maintain their firefighting systems as well as store materials properly.
