Dubai: A small fire has been reported on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah on Wednesday.

Plumes of black smoke were seen billowing out of what appears to be a construction site on the iconic man-made island, close to where the mainland.

The Dubai Civil Defence confirmed the incident to Gulf News, but said it was small and that there were no injuries.

It was not immediately clear what caused the flames.

Fire broke out in December 2016 at the Oceana apartment block on the Palm, triggering an evacuation of the residential building.

No injuries were reported in that fire.

Non-fire rated aluminium cladding had been blamed by experts in the past for the quick propagation of flames, specially the ones that broke out in old high-rises in the UAE.

The Address Downtown hotel was engulfed by fire on New Year’s Eve 2015.
