Umm Al Quwain:  Four members of an Emirati family, including an eight-month-old infant, died in a road accident on Emirates Road near Umm Al Quwain on Saturday morning, and five others suffered serious injuries, a senior official said.

According to Captain Saif Salem Zaid, Head of Traffic section at Al Salamah Police Station in Umm Al Quwain, two women, a 14-year-old girl and the infant died in the accident. The infant was killed on the spot while the two women succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Captain Zaid told Gulf News that according to preliminary investigations, the car turned over around 9.30am when a tyre burst.

The injured — a woman, two children aged 5 and 8, the maid and the driver — were taken to Umm Al Quwain Hospital. Sources said the dead and three of the injured are from the Al Khawatir family in Al Hamraniyah, Ras Al Khaimah.
