An Internet Learning Centre offering free basic training for the public was opened at Emirates Telecommunications Corp's (Etisalat) headquarters here yesterday.
Emirates Internet and Multimedia, a subsidiary of Etisalat which runs Internet services, has opened the centre to teach the public the basics such as how to use search engines and surf the Internet.
The centre is part of a nationwide initiative with similar centres also being set up in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and other locations.
Etisalat President and Chief Executive Officer, Ali Salim Al Owais, said, "The Internet is increasingly becoming an indispensable tool of business, information and education. By way of this initiative, we hope to make the Internet more accessible to both men and women and enable them to share equally in its enormous potential."
People can register at the Learning Centre to join the first available 30-minute class which will be held from 10am to noon, Saturday to Thursday.
The centre was launched in association with the Dubai-based New Horizon Education Centre, which has developed the curriculum and provided instructors for the classes, and Cisco Systems, Sony, Emitac and Al Sayegh Brothers.
