Electric cars join Dubai police fleet
Fully-electric vehicles now patrolling the Dubai international airport
Dubai: Because of their quiet attitude, you may not readily notice them when going through the Dubai airport.
But these new police patrol cars are capable, fully-electric vehicles made by the French carmaker Peugeot and recently rolled out by the Dubai police.
The EVs are now being used by officers to secure the Dubai international airport.
The plug-ins join the growing list of Dubai Police fleet — along with supercars, including a McLaren MP4-12C, a Bugatti Veyron and the Aston Martin One-77, as well as a Nissan GTR and Nissan Patrol four-wheel-drive vehicles.
The rollout was announced by the police force in a tweet on Thursday, though it was not immediately clear how many of the hatchbacks have joined service.
Last week, transport officials unveiled 50 Tesla electric vehicles to boost the airport limo fleet, at the Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3.
According to a review by Whatcar website, the Peugeot Ion is powered by a 47-kilowatt (64bhp) electric motor fed by a 16 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.
From standstill, it unleashes fast and smooth acceleration, thanks to the 140lb-ft of torque. Also, not having a gearbox makes it easier to drive, the reviewer stated.
