Dubai: The civic body has recently removed 185 winter camps for violating various kinds of rules in force in Dubai, said Eng Yousuf Abdullah Al Marzouqi, Acting Director, Building Department at the civic body.

Eng Jabir Ahmad Al Ali, Head of Building Inspection Section at Dubai Municipality, said last season the department issued 554 licences to set up winter camps up until April.

“Some of them failed to comply with the building rules and regulations in force in Dubai while some others had to face action for their shortcomings in fulfilling environment and safety requirements,” said Eng Yousuf.

He said some people had set up tents without getting proper licence.

‘We have to protect our desert areas which have the lion’s share of our total environment, so Dubai Municipality has formed a special team to inspect the camp areas frequently to assure that nothing harmful to the environment happens there’ he added.

He added that Dubai Municipality is working with various other government bodies, including Dubai Police and Civil Defence, to ensure that camps are used in the proper way as mentioned in the licences.
