Last year’s highly successful photography competition at Emirates International Date Palm Festival returns again at the 2012 Date Palm Festival to celebrate the vision and artistry of professional and amateur photographers in the UAE.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) and Date Palm Friends Society, the Date Palm Festival’s sixth annual celebration is held under the patronage of Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chairman of ADFCA.

Events will take place from November 26 to December 1, 2012.

The photography competition is now open for submission of entries that illustrate the beautyof the date palm tree and its fruit.

The last day to submit entries is Tuesday, November 20.

Mohammad Jalal Al Reyaysa, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for the Festival and the official spokesperson of ADFCA, said: “The aim of the photography competition at the Date Palm Festival is to support local talent and celebrate the UAE’s National Day through photography.

“There are hundreds of extremely talented photographers, both professional and amateur in the UAE, and we would like to provide a vast platform to showcase their unique interpretation of the date palm tree and its fruit.

“Last year more than 500 entries were submitted. We expect to exceed this figure this year and look forward to announcing the finalists and crown the winner at the festival.”

The top 20 entries will be chosen by a jury of experts as finalists compete for the winning spot, and the winner will be announced on the final day of the Date Palm Festival.

Family features at this year’s date palm festival include a Cookery Area, Date Tree Climbing Competition, Date Tree Planting, Heritage Village, Date Palm Theatre and a Kids Area.
