Abu Dhabi: The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (Enec) will host two public forums this week in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah to increase awareness and understanding of the UAE’s peaceful nuclear energy programme.

Enec, which was established in 2009, is working to deliver safe, clean and efficient nuclear energy to the UAE to support its social and economic growth.

Residents of Abu Dhabi will have the opportunity to learn more about the nation’s nuclear energy programme and hear about the latest development in Barakah, in the Western Region, where the UAE’s first energy nuclear energy plants are currently under construction.

“Our public forums have proven their success over the years in raising awareness about the UAE’s peaceful nuclear energy programme,” said Mohammad Al Hammadi, chief executive officer of Enec.

“As the programme moves ahead on schedule, we remain committed to working closely with the community across the UAE to ensure they understand the role of nuclear energy in the UAE’s energy portfolio and its importance in achieving energy security and sustainability,” he added.

Experienced nuclear engineers from Enec will be present at the forum to provide insights on how nuclear energy works and answer questions about a wide range of topics including on uranium, radiation, safety and nuclear energy’s impact on the environment.
