Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has instructed the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah to set up the Emirates Arab Calligraphy Society.
The move comes as recognition of the efforts of Emirati and expatriate calligraphers to promote Islamic art in the Emirate of Sharjah and beyond.
Commenting on the Sharjah Ruler’s gesture, Abdullah Bin Mohammad Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Information, said that Shaikh Sultan backs Arabic Calligraphy as “being one of the pillars of national identity and a field of human creativity that inspires our art and highlights it in the context of international arts.”
