Sultan orders construction work be carried out at UoS
Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), has ordered work be carried out to expand and improve the appearance of UoS, including creating more parking spaces for students.
Dr Humaid Majol Al Nuaimi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UoS for Academic Affairs, told Sharjah TV Channel in an interview on Monday that the parking spaces, a total of 1,000, will be ready at the end of this week before the commencement of the academic year on Sunday. He added that Shaikh Sultan has instructed the Department of Public Works to complete the project within the set deadline.
Al Nuaimi added that Shaikh Sultan’s call for Emirati students to enrol in a master’s degree scholarship programme had been positively received. The programme, a grant by Shaikh Sultan, has already received 102 applications. Al Nuaimi said that registration will be open for a couple more days, and that students will be accepted according to the capacity available for each major and as per the standards set by the university.
Al Nuaimi urged new students to enquire about conditions for accepting students before applying directly for the scholarship grant at the Sharjah Ruler Advisor’s Office.
Al Nuaimi said that all requirements for applying for the master’s degree scholarship grant are similar, except for IELTS and TOEFL scores. He said that an IELTS or TOEFL degree is required for some scientific and engineering majors. Students are required to score 550 in their TOEFL exam or a six in their IELTS. Students applying for the Business Management Master’s degree must score at least 81 in the online TOEFL exam or a six in their IELTS. Students applying for social sciences must score 450 in their TOEFL or 4.5 in their IELTS.
Al Nuaimi pointed out that the university had also received 2,251 new student applications, and he expects the number to increase by another 800 students joining through the governmental scholarship programme supervised by Sharjah’s Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa).
