Dubai: Dubai will host the Creative Design Conference and Workshop on Friday and Saturday in Dubai Knowledge Village.

Participants from the UAE, Oman, India, Qatar, and China, including Bill Gaspard, design director of China Daily, will attend.

Creatives from the publishing industry will join in a full day conference to talk about the trends in design across all platforms.

Doha-based broadcaster Al Jazeera will be represented by Mohammad Haddad, Senior Interactive Producer. He will talk about the advances and innovations for their storytelling interactive projects.

Gaspard meanwhile will present the development in China publications over the past years. The China Daily is the country’s main English-language newspaper published in 51 countries worldwide.

Media professionals

The National Geographic Magazine’s infographic artist Fernando Baptista will be the keynote speaker at this year’s conference.

The conference will bring together leading media professionals in the region and internationally-recognised speakers to share their experiences and showcase the best practices in design across print and digital platforms.

Saeed Al Naboudah, Acting Director-General, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said: “At Dubai Culture, we are committed to providing and supporting platforms for aspiring and professional artists, allowing them to highlight their innovative approaches that have the potential to redefine the creative industry.”

Alongside the conference, a two-day workshop on Infographics and Arabic Layout will be held on Thursday and Friday.

The infographic workshop will be led by Baptista in English. In the Arabic Layout workshop, designers will learn how to create more dynamic and creative pages in Arabic.

It will be presented by Osama Al Jawish, an award-winning designer at Al Shabiba and the Times of Oman.

A free portfolio review is open to all students and juniors professionals in the publishing industry.
