Dubai: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has opened a regional centre for educational planning under Unesco auspices in the UAE.

The centre, the second in the world, will respond to the pressing need to improve educational planning in the Gulf.

The event marked the attendance of leading senior officials including ministers of education from the Gulf region.

Shaikh Sultan granted land and a well-equipped building on the University of Sharjah campus following a visit by Konshero Matsora, Director-General of Unesco in the UAE, said Dr Ebrahim Ahmad, director of the centre.

Dr Hanif Hassan, Minister of Education, said: "The new centre materialises the modern concept of human development, promoting professional competencies, self-development and supporting the efforts exerted by the national and regional cadres to develop the realms of educational planning."
