Sharjah Police launch forensic fingerprint diploma

Sharjah: In a pioneering step to advance forensic science in the UAE, the Sharjah Police General Command has launched the country’s first professional diploma dedicated to training and certifying forensic fingerprint experts.

Developed in strategic partnership with the University of Sharjah, the program marks a significant milestone in specialized law enforcement education.

The official launch ceremony was attended by prominent figures from both the security and academic sectors, including Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police; Professor Dr. Essam El Din Ajami, Director of the University of Sharjah; Brigadier Dr. Mohammed Khamis Al Othmani, Director of the Sharjah Police Academy; Brigadier Dr. Naji Mohammed Al Hammadi, Director of the Forensic Evidence and Laboratories Department; and Dr. Asmaa Nassiri, Director of the University’s Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development.

This new diploma is a transformative initiative by the Forensic Evidence Department, aimed at enhancing the quality of criminal investigations by equipping national talent with world-class expertise in fingerprint analysis.

The curriculum combines theoretical foundations with practical training, integrating the latest advancements in forensic technology and global best practices.

Major General bin Amer emphasised the value of applied academic programs in strengthening police capabilities. “This diploma is more than a training course — it’s a bridge between knowledge and action. It empowers our officers to perform with greater precision and professionalism, reinforcing the integrity of police work at every level,” he said.

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Essam El Din Ajami praised the collaboration as a model of academic-security synergy. “This partnership aligns research and education with the real needs of the security sector. It not only supports evidence-based policing but also helps shape a new generation of experts ready to meet the nation’s evolving challenges,” he said, adding that the university remains committed to tailoring its educational offerings to the priorities of key national industries.
