Ras Al Khaimah: The RAK Medical and Health Sciences University opened its doors to its first batch of students yesterday. Shaikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, inaugurated the university's Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery programme.

Shaikh Saud who is also the Chancellor of the University, said the inauguration of the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme constituted yet another milestone in the emirate's endeavour to become a world-class educational hub.

"I am confident that this will raise the quality of the medical profession in the region," he said.

Dr S Gurumadhva Rao, the university's Vice-Chancellor, said the institute would move to its permanent campus adjacent to Saqr Hospital within two years.

Minister of Health, Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, and Dr Yasser Eisa Al Nuaimi, who heads RAK Medical Zone, and a number of dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
