Private school in Abu Dhabi shut down

Institution fails to meet safety standards set by the emirate's Education Council

Abu Dhabi:  A private school in the emirate of Abu Dhabi’s Western Region has been shut down for failing to meet safety standards.

Western Model Private School did not meet standards set by the emirate’s education sector regulator, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec). A report obtained in February last year showed the school was in “very poor” structural condition, Adec said in a statement on Monday.

In July last year, Adec therefore ordered the school to close from the start of its 2016-17 academic year and informed parents.

A total of 502 pupils enrolled at the school have been transferred to six nearby government schools and two private schools.

As previously reported by Gulf News, Adec has shut down 72 schools in the emirate that were housed in non-purpose-built facilities for falling short of health and hygiene standards.
