Abu Dhabi: As final exams for the third academic term begin tomorrow, Tuesday, June 10, public schools across various emirates in the UAE have issued strict guidelines regarding the use of electronic devices during centralised examinations.

These measures aim to preserve exam integrity and ensure a distraction-free, secure testing environment.

Banned devices in exam halls

All students, regardless of gender, are strictly prohibited from bringing or using the following electronic devices during the exam period:

  • Tablets (e.g., iPads)

  • MacBook laptops

  • All types of headphones and earbuds

  • Smartwatches

  • Mobile phones

School administrations have emphasised that these devices are considered potential sources of cheating or distraction and are not permitted inside examination rooms under any circumstances.

Permitted devices and usage rules

Only official ministry-issued devices are allowed during the exams. Students must adhere to the following rules:

  • The official exam platform “Asas” must be installed.

  • No social media applications or VPN software may be downloaded.

  • Devices should be fully charged before arriving at school.

  • Students must bring their personal chargers for emergency use.

These instructions are part of a broader effort to reinforce academic discipline, uphold exam credibility, and ensure students are technically prepared to complete their tests without interruption.

School administrations have stressed that student compliance reflects respect for the education system, wishing all students success during this crucial phase of the academic year.

Prohibited behaviours in the exam hall

With the start of end-of-term exams for the 2024–2025 academic year, public and private schools following the Ministry of Education curriculum have laid out strict behavioural expectations to foster a fair and orderly testing environment.

Key prohibitions include:

  • Bringing mobile phones, smart devices, or digital watches into the exam hall.

  • Any attempts at cheating, including answer sharing, unauthorized movement, or non-verbal communication between students.

Unauthorised applications and equipment

  • No unauthorised applications (including social media or VPNs) may be installed on exam tablets. Devices will be monitored throughout the examination period.

  • Only essential items are allowed in the exam room. Students may carry pens and calculators (as permitted by grade level), but sports bags are strictly prohibited.

  • Enlarging the tablet screen display during the exam is not allowed to prevent technical misconduct.

  • Sharing tools or speaking with peers is also prohibited to maintain a quiet and focused environment.

Surveillance and monitoring

All examination rooms will be equipped with surveillance cameras. Students are urged to maintain silence and avoid disruptive behaviour to ensure the smooth conduct of exams.

These comprehensive regulations highlight the schools’ commitment to academic integrity, fairness, and discipline, setting a clear tone for a focused and equal examination experience across the UAE.
