Abu Dhabi: A new standardised school uniform will soon be introduced for public school pupils across the emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) announced in a statement sent today (Wednesday). Private schools will be able to continue with their uniforms.
As part of a pilot phase, the new uniform will initially be worn in the 2013-2014 academic year by pupils at 12 schools — Al Dhabiania School, Al Thuraya School, Khadeeja Al Kubra School, Al Mawaheb School, Aisha Om Al Momeneen School, Palestine School and the Al Hidaya Kindergarten in Abu Dhabi city. In Al Ain, the pilot phase will run at Al Diwan Kindergarten, Al La’ale School and Al Badya School, and at Al Areej Kindergarten (KG) and Qatar Al Nada School in the Western Region. During this period, pupils at other public schools will continue to wear their old uniforms.
Mohammad Salem Al Daheri, executive director of school operations at Adec, said that the introduction of new standardised uniforms aims to ensure that the same uniform is worn by all public school pupils. He added that the uniform consists of blue, navy blue and sky blue, colours chosen after conducting a survey with various school principals.
The material for the uniforms is also available in the market at a reasonable price, the statement added.
Al Daheri also pointed out that the new design is comfortable, fits both genders and can be worn by pupils of different ages. It carries the Adec’s logo, and includes both summer and winter variations.
Kindergarten pupils can choose from two models. One includes a long-sleeved shirt, trousers, tie, winter blazer and jacket, while the second includes a short-sleeved shirt, shorts and winter blazer and jacket.
Girls in Cycle 1 (Grades 1 to 5) school also have two options. The first includes a long-sleeved shirt, school dress and a winter blazer, while the second includes a long-sleeved shirt, skirt, scarf and a winter blazer.
