The library on wheels was launched with an aim at spreading awareness of the importance of reading

Sharjah: The mobile library of Knowledge without Borders, the Sharjah-based cultural project, has so far visited 250 locations across the UAE, encouraging residents to read books.
With a major component of the strategy of Knowledge without Borders is to bring reading within the reach of all, the library’s 2016 tour schedule to date has seen stops at various locations, including schools, government organisations and private bodies.
The library on wheels was launched with an aim at spreading awareness about the importance of reading, promoting a love of books among Emirati people and enhancing Knowleged without Border’s relations with public and private entities in the UAE.
“Despite the impressive figure of almost 250 destinations reached by the mobile library from the start of 2016 until now, we consider that we have only just started the project,” Rashid Al Kous, general manager of Knowledge without Borders, said.
He said that the mobile library will also visit the majority of government authorities and departments in the UAE. “We also aim to participate in various initiatives, events and fairs which are organised all over the country as part of our efforts to promote reading and to provide books to community members in all areas,” he said
The mobile library comprises hundreds of books and also provides projectors and other devices to display e-books and e-stories. The vehicle is visiting schools, cultural institutions, private companies and public places with the aim of achieving an active presence and organising literature-related activities for its visitors, including storytelling, reading sessions and interactive competitions.
Knowledge without Borders was launched as an initiative by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and is closely supervised and supported by Shaikha Budoor Al Qasimi, Head of its Organising Committee.
The initiative aims to establish reading as a habit in every household in the UAE by encouraging the establishment of home libraries and supplying these libraries with the best books in a variety of genres suitable for all the family.
