Educator UmmeSalma Mujtaba on the new allied health science programmes introduced by MAHE Manipal-Dubai Campus.

Allied health professionals are involved in the identification, evaluation, treatment and prevention of diseases, injuries and conditions, while educating the public on prevention, wellness and self-management for healthy lifestyles.

Notes spoke to Dr Lewlyn L.R. Rodrigues, additional registrar at MAHE-Manipal Dubai Campus on some of the new undergraduate programmes introduced in the field by the college.

The new programmes:

Allied Health Science
- Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) – 4 years + 6 months of internship
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) – 4 years + 6 months of internship
- Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) 4 years (3 years + 1 year of internship)

Biotechnology
- B.Sc. in Bioinformatics – 3 years

Degree awarded by:
The degree will be awarded by the University of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, India.

Registration process

Those interested can get the Application Form from the Admission Office at MAHE Manipal Dubai Campus, or download it from www.mahedubai.com. The completed application form should be submitted to the Admission Office along with attested copies of:
- Marks sheet in qualifying examinations,
- Transfer certificate/school leaving certificate,
- Conduct certificate,
- Passport copy and
- Ten photographs along with the application fees (Dh100).

Practical and clinical training

It will be conducted in laboratories in MAHE Manipal Dubai Campus, Academic City and MAHE Manipal approved hospitals in and around Dubai.

All the policies and procedures followed at MAHE's Dubai campus are similar to those at main campus in India.

Internships and final placements

An internship will be provided at MAHE Manipal approved local hospitals in and around Dubai.

Allied Health Science professionals are much in demand in diverse healthcare occupations that provide diagnostic, therapeutic and administrative services. As these professionals provide preventive, curative and rehabilitative care to the patients, they join a medical team of doctors and nurses. The campus will provide assistance to the students in their placements as well as higher studies.

ELIGIBILITY

Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy programmes: 10+2, A-levels, International Baccalaureate (IB), American 12th grade, or equivalent and the two years of such study comprising physics, chemistry, English and biology with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and biology.

Admission to Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology: 10+2, A-levels, IB, American 12th grade, or equivalent and the two

years of such study comprising physics, chemistry, English and biology with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and biology/mathematics.

Admission to B.Sc. in Bioinformatics: 10+2, A-levels, IB, American 12th grade or equivalent and the two years of such study comprising physics, chemistry, English and biology with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and biology.

ORIENTATIN DAY AT MAHE

- MAHE Manipal Dubai campus marked the beginning of a new academic year with faculty and freshman at its annual orientation day programme held recently.

- It was an opportunity for new students to familiarise themselves with the way a university functions, get to know its rules and regulations.

- They were also informed about the university code of conduct and were given an idea about the kind of extracurricular activities at the university. In addition, students were introduced to faculty members and administrative staff.

- MAHE Manipal moved to its new campus at Academic City recently.

- Number of new students: 600
