The Institute of Management Technology (IMT), the first Indian business school to get a license from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education, is all set to begin classes at the Dubai Academic City in September this year, reports Nilima Pathak

It is said that the destiny of a nation rests on the foundation of its education. And the expenditure incurred on education is its investment for the future.

Indian universities and institutes of higher learning have been playing a major role in promoting the needs and aspirations of higher education and research to students and scholars.

Besides, these centres have also been extending their cooperation and friendship towards students of other countries.

One such college is the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, and IMT, Nagpur, in Maharashtra.

IMT recently launched its Dubai Campus for global enterprising experience. It is the first Indian business school to get a license from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education.

Located at the Dubai Academic City, IMT Dubai has world-class amenities including top-of-the-line infrastructure, state-of-the-art technology, an eminent faculty, and hostel and transport facilities for students.

Training Programs
IMT will have three MBA programs, MBA (Full Time), Executive MBA (Full Time) and Executive MBA (part-time).

MBA (full-time) program caters to young undergraduates and will be carried through a module system spread over two years. The Executive MBA (full-time) program is targeted at persons preferably with professional experience seeking career enhancement and cross-functional responsibilities. The one-year program will run into six modules.

The Executive MBA (part-time) scheduled for 18-months and running into five modules has been designed to broaden and deepen general management knowledge and skills of the working professionals.

A wide variety of highly interactive teaching methods will be employed for all the MBA programs at the IMT, Dubai. Several renowned guest speakers would be addressing the students during the course and some sessions would be conducted by visiting faculty from various leading business schools, Indian as well as international.

In addition, emphasis would be laid on establishing close interface with the industry to provide hands-on learning experience to students through industry input in course design and development, live projects with industry, sessions by industry experts to sensitise the students about the corporate realities and business issues, seminars, conferences, panel discussions and workshops, joint mentoring by industry guides and faculty members and industry-based research.

Destination Dubai
"Dubai is increasingly becoming the preferred business destination for global corporations due to its location and cosmopolitan image,'' says Professor B.S. Sahay, Director, IMT, Ghaziabad, detailing why Dubai was chosen as a centre for IMT.

"The transformation of the society along with the facilities created for futuristic business sectors, have opened new vistas for professionals, executives and management practitioners."

Sahay says that for students seeking a career in management, few places match Dubai's appeal and advantage. "Business schools across the globe are recognising the need for an experienced and mature management community in Dubai, and are developing a range of business education programs to satisfy this need.''

The classes for the programs will commence from September 2006.

IMT, India, has been in existence for the last 26 years and the college has several reasons to be proud of its achievements in the area of management education.

It has produced a large number of corporate leaders, who have excelled in their fields and it enjoys a status and a brand that is acknowledged highly by the industry.

Its mission statement ('To Promote Excellence in Management and Technology Education') reflects its relevance and importance towards its stakeholders, which include students, the industry and the society at large.

Sahay is Editor of International Journal of Value Chain Management and Guest Editor of International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management, among other journals.

He has to his credit seven books including Productivity Management-A Systems Approach, World-Class Manufacturing: A Strategic Perspective and Emerging Issues in Supply Chain Management.
