Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Education and Knowledge (Adek) announced on Saturday that it has opened five new community schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The new schools started delivering their services and programmes to students and parents that include sports, social and cultural activities. The opening of new schools brings the total number of community schools to 20 in the emirate.
The community school’s project aims to turn the school into a cultural and social hub for the overall community, and to optimise the use of school facilities after the school day through different activities that strengthen students, parents and teacher relationships, while enhancing community engagement.
The new community schools in Abu Dhabi include Humooda Bin Ali School, Saad Bin Moath School, Al Salam School and Al Rowad School and the Al Seddiqi School in Al Dhafra.
Nasser Khamis, Adek’s extra-curricular activities section manager, said the project is expected to cover even more schools and activities within the next three years in line with Adek’s strategy to serve every school’s local community.
“We are keen to study programmes and activities that benefit the community and meet their needs before opening any community school,” Khamis said.
The current phase of community schools (2017/2018) covers 20 schools across Abu Dhabi, the Al Ain and the Al Dhafra regions, in which nine schools are located in Abu Dhabi, six in the Al Dhafra Region and five in the Al Ain region, all of which are equipped with top-notch resources and recreational equipment and facilities.
The daily activities and programmes provided by community schools include swimming sessions, English, IT courses, art workshops, students tutoring classes, football, basketball, aquatic exercises/workouts, aerobics, science workshops, self-defence training, gymnastics, poetry and theatrical performances, health awareness and social counselling lectures and other activities.
