60 school buildings damaged

Dubai: Last week's heavy rains damaged about 60 schools in Dubai and many institute buildings developed leaks, according to Dubai School Agency.

The affected schools make up about a quarter of the 230 public and private schools in Dubai.

The heavy rains forced the Ministry of Education to close schools in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates.

The Dubai School Agency has been communicating with all public and private schools to assess the damage done by the record-breaking rain.

"All schools have confirmed that they will be back to 'business as usual' mode when the children return after the short break on Sunday," said the statement from the agency.

Fatma Al Merri, CEO of the DSA, said the DSA has followed up with all schools to check on the maintenance process at the schools as well as with the concerned government agencies.

"We will work closely with the schools to make up for the classes that the students have missed due to the extraordinary conditions," she added.
