EADS Casa will soon sign a $140 million final contract with UAE for four C295 Persuader maritime patrol aircraft with deliveries to begin by mid-2004, a top official confirmed.

"We have sorted out all the details and everything has been agreed. It is just a matter of signing," said Eduardo Galicia, official spokesman of EADS Casa.

The Casa C295 was selected by Abu Dhabi Navy for its anti-submarine warfare system acquisition programme, Shaheen 1.

The UAE is the first customer of EADS Casa in this region for the C295 maritime patrol aircraft.
Poland had purchased eight C295 military transport aircraft.

"The main strength of Casa C295 is that it is very affordable and has a sophisticated system," he said.

Due to security risks after September 11, it was not possible to bring the aircraft for the show here. "We planned to take the aircraft around the globe but had to cancel it," he said.

EADS Casa has developed the fully integrated tactical system (Fits), core of a complex weapon system that ranges from maritime surveillance to the most complete configurations for anti-submarine warfare.
